Official Top 20 Selling Vinyl Records Big Hitters

When vinyl records were believed to be obsolete in the late ’80s, not many would have predicted the resurgence of vinyl in the 2010s. However, that is what happened, but what have people been buying new music? Or the classic albums?

Geeks like me were only playing vinyl records, and DJ’s even a DJ was becoming hard to find who was still playing vinyl. I thought it would be interesting to see what people were buying for there collection now.

We have collected all the data from the official charts to find out the top 20 selling vinyl albums of the 2010s.

In the last decade, there are some very interesting finds that we find studying the big sellers. It’s not all modern music. In fact, there is only a sprinkling of new music as people seen to be opting for the great albums of yesteryear.

Top Selling Vinyl Album

Top of the pile is Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, an album with a release date of February 1977 but still a must-have vinyl record. Looking down the list Fleetwood Mac features one more time in the top 100 with there Greatest Hits album in at number 32.

21st Century Representatives

We are looking for representatives from the music of the 21st century. A stand out picks in at number two is the best selling vinyl album from Amy Winehouse Back To Black. Sticking with the 21st century, we only have two more albums in the top 10. All other albums (four albums) from the 21st century fall outside the top 10.

The other two albums from the 21st century, making it into the top 10, are Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix 1 in at number four. Then we have the Arctic Monkeys in at number six with there album AM.

Out of the top 20 selling vinyl albums of the 21st century sold, thirteen are from pre-2000, and there are a few names on the list more than once.

Double Dipping Top 20 Artists

The Beatles find two albums (Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band 1967 and Abbey Road 1969) in the top 20, mainly due to reissues. Two more albums from the Beatles are in the top 100 vinyl albums. The Beatles released in 1968 in at number forty-four and Revolver released in 1966 in at fifty-four.

Others who find themselves in the top 20 more than once include Arctic Monkey (2), David Bowie (2) Nirvana (2), and Oasis (2).

Big Hitters

David Bowie has two albums in the top 20 and an incredible seven biggest selling vinyl records in the top 100.

Looking down the list there are a few more standouts with multiple top-selling albums in the top 100.

Arctic Monkey has two in the top 20 and two more in the top 100 (31 and 66)
Ed Sheeran has one top 20 album Divide in at 14 and two more in the top 100 (38 and 81)
Led Zeppelin Four Symbols comes in at 19 with another three albums in the top 100 (42, 46, and 94)
Nirvana Nevermind is a top 10 album at number nine and Unplugged In New York a top 20 in at 16 with one more album within the top 100 (77)
Pink Floyd, The Dark Side of The Moon, comes in at number three with two more albums in the top 100 (27 and 36)
Radiohead has four best-selling vinyl albums in the top 100 (39, 40, 72, and 92), none making the top 20 but still pretty impressive.

Top 20 Up and Coming Contenders

New vinyl albums to look out for that could make a push for the top 10. We dug deeper for albums that may give some of the top albums a run for there money. The big standout is the very talented Billie Eilish with her album When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go with a release date of March 2019 already at number seventy-five.
